Ricky the Esquire
7th Ocober 2009

In between the release of “The Invention of Lying” and the making of his new film, Ricky has somehow how found time to guest edit the November edition of Esquire Magazine. Other guest editors include Nick Hornby and Evan Davis with Ricky editing the entertainment section of the magazine.

Apparently Ricky would only take part if he could recreate Muhammad Ali’s controversial cover of the magazine in 1968. (See picture left).

Included in Ricky’s section will be his advice to Jennifer Garner on how to win an Oscar and a behind then scenes look at The Simpsons. Karl will also be making a contribution with an A-Z tour of his brain.

Educating Karl?
25th November 2008

All the hullabaloo over Karl’s reluctance to do anymore podcasts now seems to be a distant memory as the first release of around 12 new audiobooks is almost upon us. This time they will be in a slightly different format covering a different subject each week, evolution, art, history etc, a sort of extended version of Educating Karl.

Listen to an introduction or preview or whatever you wanna call it here.

Thers’s also been an email set up for you to send in suggestions or ask Karl questions aptly called askkarl@rickygervais.com. Be sure to give this website a plug, no pressure.

Even more exciting news is that the audiobooks are to be turned into an animated series for American TV. God knows what Americans unaware of Karl will make of it all, could Karl become as big a name stateside as Ricky, scary thought.

Ricky, Karl and Steve doing one more series
8th July 2008

Ricky has finally managed to persuade Karl to do one more series of six podcasts. The shows will be available from October of this year. Gervais said these will "almost certainly" be the last as "We have achieved everything we set out to do". It’s not clear yet whether the shows will be available as free downloads or if they will be charging.

The picture on the left is the new photo taken for Series 4.

Gervais, Pilkington and Merchant back on the radio!
7th May 2008

So it seems at last as if Pilkington has agreed to the one off reunion that Ricky has been bugging him about over the last few weeks. The trio will unite for a 2 hour special as part of NME’s test transmission on June 9th (make a note in your diary) before their official launch on the 24th June.

It will be repeated every day and can be listened to on Sky, Virgin, DAB in the south east and on the NME website. Don’t worry if you miss it, it will be available to listen to anytime at www.nme.com/radio.

The managing director of NME radio Sammy Jacob worked with Gervais and Merchant in their early days at XFM.

"Hearing Ricky, Steve and Karl in action again will no doubt keep me on my toes," he declared.

"I used to bury myself hearing Ricky and Steve on air in 1997, fearing we would lose our licence each time they went on," he continued. Having Karl on board has only made matters worse. I look forward to some compelling radio."

So do we all mate.

No More Podcasts - Official
23rd April 2008

The podcasts are no more. Ricky has finally admitted defeat in the last installment of his blog. The reasons for Karl’s reluctance to do anymore seem rather unclear but I guess that’s his decision. Gervais isn’t even sure if Pilkington will be speaking to him again at all!

Shame really but there ya go. Even more reason to listen to these shows again so as to keep fresh in the memory some of the greatest radio that was ever made.

Update - Now Karl is saying he might do one last reunion.

Gervais in GTA IV
20th April 2008

GTA3, aah the memories. Anyway apparently Ricky will be making an appearance in the soon to be released GTA IV. He’ll be performing some new material along with some stuff from his Fame tour in Liberty City’s very own Comedy Club.

Gervais will also be making an appearance elsewhere in the game but refuses to divulge where. "It was shot in New York, and I got to wear a tight lycra suit as part of the digital process," he said. "That wasn't so good." The eagerly awaited game will be released on April 29th

No More?
5th April 2008

Okay so I’ve been away for a few weeks and missed the big news. Apparently Karl doesn’t wasn’t to do anymore podcasts!! His reasons are that he’s sick of people complaining that the shows are scripted and indeed that he himself is an actor. Something that the conspiracy theorists out there have harped on about for years even though it is utter bullshit.

As a result Gervais has started a blog on his website with the aim of persuading the round headed one to return where he belongs. Check out Ricky’s blog here.

So could this be the end of the legendary show or is this all a publicity stunt by the money making machine that is Ricky Gervais, only time will tell.
